Grilling Season is Here!

It’s that time of year when we all hit the grill for easy outdoor cooking.  Canola oil is the perfect oil for all your grilling needs. With a high smoke point of 242 C.  Canola oil allows you to grill at high heat and know that your oil is stable and your food will be true to flavour.

You have a couple of options when it comes to grilling the perfect piece of steak, chicken or turkey breast, pork tenderloin or even that portabella mushroom.

You can season your grill by brushing it with canola oil or you can oil your food item prior to placing on the grill.  Everyone you talk to will give you a different opinion so give both methods a try and decide for yourself what works best with your own personal grilling style.

Personally I love to use marinades.  I always use canola oil as my marinade base and add a combination of flavours to suit the style of my meal. For me, this is usually a combination of the fresh herbs I have on hand and a bit of something acidic like lemon or lime juice.  Check out Ellen’s Herb Flavour Chart to help you select a combination of herbs to suit your meal.

When using a canola oil based marinade I put everything in large re-sealable freezer bag. Make multiple bags up at once and place the extras in the freezer. These make great meals to take to the lake as they are frozen and travel well. Plus when the meal thaws you are ready to get grilling.

I’ve included a few of my favourite marinades below for you to give a try.

Happy Grilling and Be Well…
