Prairie Fruit – It’s a Passion!

October 30, 2012

Over the past few months we have had the pleasure of hearing from Guest Blogger Getty Stewart, PHEc and author of the Prairie Fruit Cookbook.

Getty has shared posts with us over the summer months that included Trouble in Our Cabbage Patch – where she talked about having the same insect issues as our canola farmers because, like the canola plant; kohlrabi, broccoli and cabbage are all members of the Brassica genus.

It was really wonderful to read about Getty’s successful Brassica family harvest in her post It’s Harvest Time.  What a great bounty of veggies!

Strawberry JamIn July, there was the Strawberry Jammin’ Party where Getty and her friends got together, brought the kids into the kitchen for a sticky but fun situation.  There is nothing better than bringing kids into the kitchen.  Kids have so much fun, they ask amazing questions and best of all they usually eat everything they make!

Just in time for everyone’s bumper crop of tomatoes Getty shared Tasty Tomatoes.  Looking back at those photos makes my mouth water for another big bowl full of the tomatoes from my garden.

As the summer and fall come to a close I’d like to thank Getty for sharing with me, and our readers, her knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for fresh local food.  I will never look at a fruit tree in my neighbourhood in the same way again!

You can read all about the passion behind this fabulous PHEc at Being Getty.

I’d also like to personally congratulate Getty for keeping her Prairie Fruit Cookbook on the Best Sellers list at McNally this summer.  You can see a full listing of places to purchase the cookbook at http://www.gettystewart.com/?page_id=8.  It would make a great hostess gift this season.

Be sure to watch for more about Getty on the Be Well Blog!
