Appleberry Crisp

If you enjoy apple crisp or berry crisp, you’ll love this appleberry crips that fuses both apples and blueberries. This recipe uses a minimal amount of sugar that can be replaced with local honey. This is a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba-approved recipe.

  • Ingredients
    • 4 medium sized apples, peeled and diced (4)
    • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries (500 mL)
    • 2 Tbsp brown sugar, divided (30 mL)
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract (5 mL)
    • 1 Tbsp cornstarch (15 mL)
    • 3/4 cup rolled oats (175 mL)
    • 1 Tbsp wheat germ (15 mL)
    • 1 Tbsp canola oil (15 mL)
    • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (1 mL)
  • Directions
    1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine apples, blueberries, half the brown sugar, vanilla, and cornstarch. Place mixture into a 2 quart (2 L) baking dish.
    3. In a second bowl, combine rolled oats, wheat germ, canola oil, cinnamon, and remaining brown sugar. Sprinkle crumb mixture over fruit.
    4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until fruit is bubbly. Remove from oven.
