To the Farm Diva

Tracy Chappell gave the toast at the 2014 Farm Women’s Conference in Brandon.  The theme of the conference was Ag Divas.

Tracy has captured a list of how and why farm women are truly Agriculture Divas.  For so many who can relate to being married to a farmer and for others, an insight to the farming lifestyle.

Let’s define Diva

di•va

  1. The main female singer in an opera company
  2. A usually glamorous and successful female performer or personality

A woman who has self-confidence, self-respect and a hell of a swagger. She knows who she is and exactly where she is going.  People tend to gravitate toward her as they respect her swagger.

Cheers to The Farm Diva

For those directly involved on a daily basis and to those who work all day at one job to come home to many more jobs.

  1. To the divas who this season knew where the tow rope, 4 wheel drive and backhoe were at all times;
  2. To the divas who realize that life on the farm is challenging, rewarding and never the same.  It will always be an adventure, and only adventurous divas will survive;
  3. To the divas who realize that a date means – checking crops or touring a machinery lot, and only if it rains…
  4. To the divas that know that when they go to places like Brandon, it will mean stopping at Princess Auto and Canadian Tire;
  5. To the flexible divas that have meals that can be eaten at 6 or perhaps ten;
  6. To the divas who know that the term “I just finished and will be home soon”  has a very different connotation to us than it does to him;
  7. To the educator divas – for being teachers to our children, about where our food comes from and how to take care of the land so that it is here for many generations to come;
  8. To the divas who have smiled during the good times and become stronger during the tough times;
  9. To the divas that go for parts when she doesn’t have a clue if what she is picking up is what he needs or not;
  10. To the divas that have the weather network as your homepage, and know it is the first thing our partners look at and the last, and who have learned to read the radar so we can predict how much longer they have to do a chore before the rain hits;
  11. And to the divas who enjoy our surroundings, – the prairie sunrises and sunsets, the birth of a new animal, the smell of freshly tilled soil and the night sky especially with the Northern Lights.

We are all farm divas and for each of us the definition is a bit different but that makes us who we are, and our farmers wouldn’t want it any other way.

A toast to the Farm Women Divas, here’s to our swagger!

Be Well…Tracy
