I love Festivals! There are all kinds of them from music, comedy, kids & plays – I love them all because you get exposed to so many different interesting people, stories and food. In Manitoba and across Canada, we can access so many great local festivals every year like Kid’s Fest, Fringe Fest and don’t forget the Dauphin Ukraine Festival or the Icelandic Festival.

Summer Interns
Yes summer is still here, but things are beginning to change. And it’s the time of the year when I am just a ‘bit sad’ as I have to bid farewell to the summer students with whom I’ve been working for the past three months. Over the years, there have been more than 100 dietetic interns, human ecology practicums, and students from agriculture, nutrition, food science and other disciplines who have spent the summer at the Alberta Canola Producers’ office.
They have all been unique – offering skills, attitude and wonderful support. One student commented a couple of years back, “You hire us because we have the latest research info and trends that the universities have given us, and like a sponge, every summer you soak up what we’ve learnt… and that makes you a better professional.” I couldn’t have said it any better.

Summer hats for kids
Every year and every place I go I always get asked “Where did you get your kids’ hats?” or people say “Those are the best beach hats!” I agree, our Outdoor Research Kids’ Rambler Sombrero hats truly are the best for my kids and they have saved us entirely from sunburns. The much loved sunscreen application on cheeks, noses, ears and neck is a thing of the past for us (unless extended periods of time are spent on the water).
Now, if only I could find the perfect summer hat for myself. Anyone have a favourite?
