What Jenn’s Lovin’

The Big Prairie Sky

This summer I’m soaking up as much big Prairie sky as I can manage.  It wasn’t until early July when the smoke rolled in from out of Province fires that I realized how much I love our big Prairie sky.  Every chance I have to get out of the city limits, take in a sunrise, a sunset or watch the clouds roll along I’m game.  Here is one of my favourte summer sunrise photos to date taken at our summer cabin.  Where do you capture your favourte landscape photos?

Outdoor Spaces

I am lovin cool uniquely designed outdoor spaces. I first encountered this years ago in Sonoma, California at www.cornerstonesonoma.com

It’s a mash up of gardening & architecture which creates a new space that is so cool.  For me, it showcases a new perspective.  If you are ever going to Napa this is a must stop.

The Forks in Winnipeg will have Cool Gardens open until the end of September.

This is a public exhibition of contemporary garden and art installations that offers a shift of sensation for the summer—cooling—as a general theme for public projects in the downtown. The exhibit aims to bring architects, designers, landscape architects and artists together to celebrate contemporary garden culture and the local landscape.

I can’t wait to check it out.

What Simone’s Lovin’

air stream trailer | www.canolaeatwell.comTwo years ago we received an email from a Texas couple. It explained that they were leading a group of Air Stream caravan owners through southern and central Alberta, and could someone from the canola industry take some time to explain those yellow fields by which they would be driving.

So, Canola Council of Canada agronomist, Dan Orchard, contacted retired Alberta Canola director Kevin Bender and his dad and asked if the group could visit their farm. On the appointed day, Dan, along with Alberta Agriculture′s Murray Hartman guided the group of cars to Benders′ canola fields. Three hours later, and after many questions had been answered, the group joined me for a catered lunch where canola oil was used in every course. And before lunch was over, they had all crushed canola seeds, sampled various types of canola oils, and had listened about canola′s health benefits and culinary advantages.

Three months later, I had the opportunity to meet the guides in their home city of Houston. They assured me that all the visitors were now canola users, supporters and sharers of their knowledge. So, guess what?

This August another caravan will be coming through, and Dan and I will meet them in another canola farmer′s field to answer their questions. And over another lunch we will introduce them to the same canola oil and meal values that we shared before.  It will be fun once again, because this group is truly interested in learning.
