Shiny Boots & a Spring in my Step!

Spicy Beef and Jicama Lettuce Wraps | www.canolaeatwell.com

Getting my boots shined at the airport shoe shine is such a treat!  They have all the right tools handy to do the job well in remarkably little time.  Step up into the seat, feet on the footings, and in just minutes, boots go from looking dull and worn to sleek and shiny!

Now, if shiny boots doesn’t put that spring in your step, this recipe for Spicy Beef and Jicama Lettuce Wraps might!  It’s warm, fresh, spicy, and crunchy.  Mmmm!  I LOVE jicama and if you’ve never had it, it’s well worth the hunt!

What Jenn’s Lovin’

The right sock

If you following me on Instagram you’ll know that I spend many hours each week hanging out in hockey rinks or hitting the local ski trails. An essential item as I layer up to keep warm is the right sock. Not, the right to my left but the correct, best, perfect pair of socks to keep my feet warm and comfortable. My top two brands of choice are: SmartWool and Icebreaker.

What is your must have winter layering item?

I believe there is no bad weather, just bad gear. If you find yourself uncomfortable outdoors during winter, now is a great time to start investing in the right layering pieces to turn that around. Get outside, get moving and have fun!

What Ellen’s Lovin’

Downhill skiing with my family and friends

Downhill skiing was a winter activity that I did with my family and our friends years ago.  My parents took us skiing out West for a number of years.  They never skied and I actually don’t know what they did when we skied all day. For the past few years, my family has gone downhill skiing in Manitoba (ok, it’s not the mountains) with good friends. I’m loving it again and so are my kids.

I love museums

Canola Field | www.canolaeatwell.com

No. I am not one of those individuals who walks in the door of a museum and does not leave till I systematically have read every written poster nor interacted with each electronic option. How often do you visit Museums? And what’s your plan of viewing?

In honour of Canada’s 150th Anniversary, and the 50th year for the Canola Council of Canada, there will be two new displays on canola developed by the Ag & Food Museum(AFM) in Ottawa. Check out the traveling exhibit at various locations across Canada in the next few years, or in Ottawa drop by AFM and the world’s only working farm in the middle of a city.
