What We’re Lovin for October

Harvest Meals

Alberta Harvest Field Meal | www.canolaeatwell.comSharing a family meal is good for the spirit, the brain and the health of all family members.

This appears to be even more so as farm families head into harvest season – a time which can mean round-the-clock work if the weather cooperates.

What is served varies with the garden and what grew well this season. How families do this varies from spreading the food on the tailgate of the family vehicle, to setting up tables and chairs, and if you are Alberta’s Mosers, then you enjoy the comforts of a converted school bus.

Fall Garden Harvest

Beets from the Garden | www.canolaeatwell.comI am loving #OCanadaFood and the fall harvest of the garden and the crops.  Harvest is a magical time of year for our farmers for both the crop farmers and our market gardeners.  It reminds me of my childhood from my Baba’s huge garden to riding in the combine with my dad.

It’s the time to celebrate the bounty of the harvest.  Fresh beets, beans and peas are a few of my favorites from my father-in-laws garden.  We love the fresh veggies steamed, roasted in the oven and of course grilled on the BBQ.

Fall is an excellent time for stew.  We’ve pulled our Favourite Fall Stew recipe for you to try with your family.  Enjoy!
