Hands on Learning
This past year was full of hands on learning. We connected those that use and choose canola oil with those that grow the the crop that makes the oil. Great questions were asked, myths were busted and we all took one step further in the farm to food conversation. Everyone learned new things about growing food at the farm and making food delicious in the kitchen.
Here’s a peek back at many of the workshops hosted by our team in 2015. Be sure to watch for announcements for the events this year. Engage with us in person and online. We want to connect with you!
Learn, Make, Create and Take
The kick off event and first #EatWellCanolaOil workshop included many fantastic moments from crushing canola seeds and learning about why canola oil is a pantry favourite, to the food and the opportunity to share the kitchen with Chef Matt Dean Pettit. Chef Matt joined us later in the season for #CanolaConnect Harvest Camp that was hosted on farms in Manitoba.
Brunch in the City
We met up with friends, some old and some new, at the beautiful Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto for a “Brunch in the City” event in May! The event was co-hosted by Registered Dietitian Abbey Sharp and the talented Chef Tizzard. Here’s a look back at of some of the tweets & Instagrams from the event.
World of BBQ
What better way to kick off summer than with a BBQ? The backyard of Dine Alone Records in Toronto was the perfect setting for our World of BBQ event with Chef Matt Basile, author of Street Food Diaries. Chef Matt’s grilled goodies took us on a trip around the world and it was out of this world! Luckily, we took home a few fun tips for hosting our own backyard BBQ this summer.
3 Things we learned about Street Food
On a perfectly sunny day in late August, we hosted an #EatWellCanolaOil workshop in the beautiful setting of the Niagara region in Ontario. We were fortunate to have gourmet food-truck pioneer Chef Adam Hynam-Smith of El Gastonomo Vagabundo to teach us a thing or three about preparing, serving and, of course, tasting the most amazing street food we had ever had.
Spanish Tapas Feast
In October, at the inspiring Canada Agriculture and Food Museum in Ottawa, guest host for the evening was Don Chow of FoodiePrints.com and our guest chef for the evening was none other than Top Chef Canada Season 4 winner, Chef René Rodriguez. What a treat to have his roots guide us through the Spanish Tapas Feast!
Holiday Baking with Friends
In November we baked together with Charmian Christie, The Messy Baker. Here are three of our favourites: Cranberry Pistachio Baklava Pockets, Poppy Seed Bars with Citrus Icing and Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies.
You can read and see a beautiful and funny re-cap of the event over at The Hungry Gnome. Thanks for joining us Chanry!
We also baked away the night, two nights to be exact, with Chef Mary Jane Feeke. Check out her top 10 baking tips to keep you nimble in your kitchen! We are lovin’ Chef’s White Chocolate Raspberry Thimble Cookies and her Chocolate Mint Crinkle Cookies. Both are fan favourites.
