What We’re Lovin’ – April

It’s April and its Earth month!  The Be Well crew has officially sprung into spring.  Check out the reusable shopping bag offer outlined in the post.

What Wendy’s Lovin’
Anything in coral! – From nail polish, to shoes and accessories, to denim…I’m loving this colour!  It’s such a great spring colour and lucky for me it’s everywhere.  My only problem is holding myself back from buying everything I see in coral!

Black beans – Last month I was in Miami, Florida. Miami is home to a vast Cuban population so Cuban restaurants are everywhere. Since we lack this in Winnipeg, I took in as much as I could get. Rice and black beans are a Cuban staple and I realized how much I had missed them! Coming from a Latin family myself, these beans brought back memories of my childhood when my mom cooked them from scratch. I don’t have that luxury anymore, so since I’ve been back I’ve incorporated them into my diet as much as I can; as a side dish, in chili, or mixed with corn bits, red onion, cilantro and lime as a salsa. They’re healthy, delicious and so versatile! The closest I can find in Winnipeg that stays true to its Latin flavour are the canned Goya brand black beans that can be found at Latin supermarkets in the city.

What Jenn’s Lovin’:
Diggin’ in the Dirt – I know it is barely April but that week of unusually nice weather in March had me digging in the dirt.  I spent a sunny morning with my youngest son planting seeds.  It was so refreshing.  We now have a pot of mixed herbs (cilantro, parsley and purple basil) sprouting in our warm South window.  Spring is in the air!

Reusable Shopping Bags – In honour of Earth Day, on Sunday April 22, I wanted to highlight my love of reusable bags!  I’ve been using them for years and will never go back to plastic…well except maybe for raw meat.  I still like my raw meat in plastic but that is just the germaphobe in me.  We happen to have a fantastic reusable bag and if you leave a comment on this post with what you are loving this month we will send you a free bag*!
