Let the Light Shine

LIGHT is my Word of the Year. After much thought and short listing of words & playing with them (I have a process) I’ve selected LIGHT.

Light is our primary means of perceiving the world around us.

For me in this next year, it’s about lifting others up so they can shine their light out, letting my light shine (internally and externally) and exploring who in my community wants to create a rainbow 🌈. You need light for that!

My Fitbit

what lynn is lovin' - fitbit

I am in love, perhaps even a little obsessed, with my Fitbit. Not David Sedaris obsessed, but still…obsessed. Now I do understand that I am very late to this fitness tracker game and that my enthusiasm for this little new companion of mine, has many friends and colleagues rolling their eyes, and that’s ok with me! New technology is often not my friend and my previous experience with the pedometers of the 90’s was dismal and a let down.

So why this change in heart and readiness to try new tracker technology? Simply, it was the girls at Pilates that convinced me that I ‘just’ needed to get one.  How else do you prove that you have exercised if it is not recorded?  What about calories burned, minutes active and heart rate?  Always one for wanting to fit in, I purchased my first tracker early December, and I am most happy that I did!

My Fitbit is a simple model that tracts heart rate, active zone minutes, activity, steps, and sleep. My current goal is 20,000 steps a day now that in-person fitness classes are on hold, as well as getting the right amount of sleep at night. I like that it also reminds me to get up and move throughout the day, and even tells me when to hydrate. My tracker is quite the little personal health manager.  I’ll keep you updated on my progress and would love to hear about yours. Let’s set those trackers and go!

Get Outside in Winter

A friend of mine, Shel Zolkewich always says “There is no bad weather, just bad gear”. After hearing this statement I have entirely shifted my perspective on winter. I’ve slowly been investing in quality winter clothing, socks, footwear and sporting equipment. Wearing the right gear for the temperature makes such a huge difference.

This season you’ll find me out walking, cross country skiing, skating and snowshoeing. With the right gear, you can head out in the middle of winter when it’s +2°C and you can also head out when it’s -30°C. Get outside!
