Embracing Hope

For all of us, our world has changed. We are practicing physical distancing, kids are home from school and our daily routines have shifted.

I’ve quoted Maya Angelou before and I want to share another one of her amazing quotes that resonates with me:

“Hope and fear cannot occupy the same space. I invite one to stay”

I’m embracing hope and remembering to seek out laughter. On most days, I find a comedy podcast.  One of my favorites is The Debaters with Steve Patterson. It’s a CBC radio show were comedies go toe to toe in a battle of laughs and logic.  You can listen to past seasons on your favorite podcast app and I find it rather funny.  There is always a laugh to be had.

My Home Movement Space

I feel my best when I incorporate intentional movement everyday. It can be anything from a slow walk around my yard to a fast flowing yoga session to a family bike ride or a strength based workout. My body is built to move.

I’m truly loving that we have carved out a small area in our home dedicated to movement. It’s a simple space with an exercise bike (not my jam but my husband + kids love it), a large mirror to help with yoga poses, a small shelving unit for workout essential gear and a giant basket for yoga mats and straps.

What’s your favourite way to move your body?

Spring Cleaning Your Refrigerator

It’s that time of the year to open the windows, give your house a good spring cleaning and let the sunshine in!  Don’t forget that favorite, well used family appliance – the refrigerator!!!

  • Check your owner’s manual first. For efficiency and the best cooling, find out how to clean the front grill and the condenser coils. Do remember to unplug the refrigerator first when you clean the coils.  Give the outside a good wipe.
  • It may seem obvious but remove all food before starting. Having an empty fridge makes cleaning easier and removes the possibility of contamination with cleaning products. I also like to take everything out so I can take stock of all the condiments, pickles and sauces that I have. Do examine items that are passed their best before dates and decide on purge or a use it up plan.
  • Scrub the inside. Use a clean sponge and warm soapy water to clean shelves, drawers and the freezer. Rinse with clean water, and then dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  • Wipe off any jars, bottles, or containers and place them back into the refrigerator.
  • Eliminate odors with an open box of baking soda on a back shelf. Replace every three months.
  • Buy a refrigerator thermometer for the centre of the middle shelf. Adjust the fridge setting so that the temperature stays below 4C.

Now, don’t you feel great! Another chore on the list checked off.  Happy spring!
