What We’re Lovin’ for February

Sharing the Love

Sharing the Love | www.canolaeatwell.com

What We’re Lovin’ for February is that we will be lovin’ all month long!

February is the month of LOVE! The Canola Eat Well team loves to share what we’re lovin’ each month, but often wonder: what is everyone else lovin’?

Stay tuned all month long as we reach out to our friends and partners to share some love from East to West, from partners to camp alumni, from us to you (it’s like a big group hug from coast to coast). Feeling the love yet?

Join the fun, leave us a comment below and share what you’re lovin’!

Nutrition Action

A great nutrition resource filled with all the answers you have when it comes to food and health.  For me, the yogurt aisle at the grocery store is filled with so many options, what to pick? In a past issue, Nutrition Action gave tools to help understand what to look for and what to avoid.

You can order a hard copy or sign up for their emails.  With information from their nutritionist and scientists, it`s a great tool to have in your health kit to help you navigate the food that we eat.

Red Cinnamon Hearts and @TakingIttoHeart

It may be sacrilegious but come Valentine’s Day my fave treat is not chocolate, but rather the little red cinnamon hearts. I usually buy one (or two) bags, and then I use them all year long.

Because I don’t have a lot of dyes in my diet, the deep red of these hearts is not a concern – but I like to use it to my culinary advantage.

One or two hearts are just enough sweetness as a treat! But even tastier if using the hearts to flavour other foods like applesauce, plain yogurt and sweet popcorn treats. And finally, there’s little as comforting as popping a couple hearts in a hot cup of tea, on a cold winter night.

Taking it to Heart | www.canolaeatwell.comMy second fave for February are the daily reminders to pay attention to my heart health from @TakingIttoHeart. Like short daily life meditations, each tweet reminds me of the importance of healthy food choices, regular exercises and managing my stress.

Follow @TakingIttoHeart and check it out for your daily reminder to take care of yourself.

Open Your Heart

Yoga in a canola field | www.canolaeatwell.comI love my new rectangular yoga bolster. Did you know that by stretching the muscles in your chest, shoulders, and belly you can create a deep emotional release, helping you to open your heart, honour yourself and let love grow.

I spend a minimum of 5 minutes a day stretching with my bolster doing a gentle heart opening stretch. Sometimes I’m looking for a restorative stretch and will hold a posture for up to 20 minutes as long as I’m comfortable and well supported.

Halfmoon has an excellent page that can help you choose the right bolster for you! Let February be the month you open your heart.

Be Well…Ellen, Simone & Jenn
