What Jenn’s Lovin

Hydro Hands

If you splurge on one product this month – get yourself a bottle of Hydro Hands from Tiber River. Our Canadian winters can be harsh on our skin and this is the only hand lotion I’ve ever used that actual moisturizes and heals my hands without leaving that greasy feeling behind. This must-have product is always in my bag and on my counter – just ask my peeps! I’ve been known to gift bottles of the stuff to my foodie friends as it’s the best “after-dishes” remedy besides always using gloves of course.

This product really works and gets bonus points from me because it also contains canola oil – yes, really!

February is Heart Month – a time to bring attention to the importance of heart health.

West Coast Bowl | www.canolaeatwell.comHeart disease affects 2.4 million Canadian adults, and is the second leading cause of death in Canada.

We can reduce our risk of heart disease by making healthy lifestyle choices such as quitting smoking, eating a healthy and balanced diet, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Canola oil, contains a high level of monounsaturated fats – the type of fat that lowers cholesterol and may lessen your chance of having a heart attack or stroke. Canola oil is also a good source of the essential polyunsaturated fat omega-3 and contains the lowest amount of saturated fat of all vegetable oils. Research shows that substituting saturated fats for polyunsaturated fats lowers your risk of heart disease.

As a Registered Dietitian, I understand that this can all seem overwhelming for some.  If you need to need to make changes – start with the simple ones and get help if you need to.

Why not try The West Coast Bowl by fellow dietitian Zannat Reza.  It is simple, delicious, and will make your heart (and your tummy) very happy.
