What We’re Lovin’ for January

What Jenn’s Lovin

Warm cup of tea and Canadian honey

Warm up from the inside out with a cup of tea and honey.  I’m lovin’ tea blends from Cornelia Bean with a smidge of Canadian honey. Always check your honey label for 100% Canadian sourced.

When you visit Cornelia Bean you enter another world. The old creaky wooden floors and heavy door remind me of another time and the smell of tea and coffee takes over as you embark on your tea selection journey. They have so many to choose from that it’s hard to pick just one.  For me I often go back to my trusty favourites, Manitoba Rooibos, Chocolate Mint Rooibos, and fruit blends such as Sugar Plum or their holiday flavour Nutcracker.

Every warm beverage can use a touch of sweetness and Honey is so good you can eat it right off the spoon. What are you filling your mug with this January?

Baking and Biscuits

Biscuit | www.canolaeatwell.com

January days are oh so cold and dark, and my body craves warming, long simmer, hearty stews and soups.  What to serve with those delicious stews and soups but beautiful homemade biscuits of course!

I love this recipe for Cheddar Baking Powder Biscuits that I have shared below. Oil is not traditionally the fat of choice when making biscuits but rather shortening, lard or butter.   I much prefer to use canola oil because I already have it on hand, it is inexpensive (and Canadian grown), and my nutrition brain loves that it is lower in saturated fat than butter or lard. Do embrace January, make a batch of these biscuits, and share with others.  January has never tasted so good.
