Each summer I pick a lake craft that we can putter on throughout the summer. One year it was making concrete stepping stones with old broken dishes, another it was painting driftwood and another it was painting rocks. It seems to often include paint on rustic surfaces. It’s very relaxing to be out in the fresh summer air with colour and a blank canvas.

If you were to wonder my lake property you’d notice remnants of years of crafting gone by in the edges of flower beds and strewn about in the tree line. The odd piece makes it way into the cabin or heads off as a gift but for the most part we leave the creations outdoors on our property.

What do you love to create?

Grilling all the vegetables on our BBQ

Spice-It-Up Paste for Grilled Vegetables | www.canolaeatwell.com

Summer grilling tastes so good! We grill year around but somehow summer bbqing just tastes better! Our family favorite is mixed coloured peppers cut in wide slices, white button, cremini and or portabello mushrooms, yellow onion in wedges, and cherry tomatoes. I marinate them with some balsamic vinegar, canola oil, dash of salt and pepper. I marinate them in the fridge for the day.  Then onto the hot grilling pan for my #MakeitCanola recipe.

We tend to make extra to have leftovers to go on sandwiches, pizza or salad.  It’s a great pop of flavor!

Another great recipe is Spice it up Paste for Grilled Vegetables.

Seasonal Produce

Zucchini Linguini Alfredo | www.canolaeatwell.com

Fresh vegetables and fruit grown and kissed by the Canadian sun is a beautiful thing.  It is true pleasure to eat springtime asparagus, green onions, and lettuce – oh the flavour!  Summer tomatoes, cucumbers, peaches, apricots, cherries, nectarines just taste so good.  And hearty fall vegetables and fruit such as squash, potatoes, apples and pears make the best soups, stews and pies.  I love food – is a simple as that.  Buy Canadian grown seasonal produce when you can for optimal flavour – your taste buds will thank you.   Have an abundance of zucchini in your garden – try this delicious twist on your favourite pasta alfredo: Zucchini Linguini Alfredo
