What Jenn’s Lovin

Strawberries

Fresh, local, sunshine-in-July warmed, u-pick strawberries. Growing up in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, the city that marks the halfway point between Ontario and Saskatchewan, is known for having the most sun-filled days a year by Environment Canada. In 1988, Portage made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest bowl of strawberries. It would come as no surprise that in July you’ll find me enjoying as many fresh berries as possible.
DYK that in the 1970s farmers in the area were encouraged to diversify and took up the challenge with the production of strawberries? They became so abundant that, for a time, Portage was known as the strawberry capital of Canada!

What’s Old is New Again – Macrame

I fell in love with macrame in the 70s – at Brownies.  It is a versatile form of fibre art that can be used to make everything from jewelry, purses, curtains, plant hangers and wall hangings – such as my beloved jute owl that I made in Brownies and have hanging in my kitchen today. I love it because you can be creative with the knots, and the twine, and use embellishments like glass or wooden beads, driftwood, shells, and even fabric. It is a fun craft to take the cottage that everyone can do.  Do you think string art will become popular again?  Happy crafting!!!!
