Succulent Gardens

Succulent Gardens | www.canolaeatwell.comThis season I’ve decided to fully embrace the trend of succulent gardening.  I made my first purchase from a local greenhouse, filled my pot with sandy soil and I’m on my way.

Succulents and I are really the perfect match. They prefer regular watering in the summer season but are fine to dry out now and again.

I hear they are easy to propagate and I’m looking forward to trying this out.

There are so many varieties of various sizes, colours and shapes.  I found it almost impossible to pick my first three.

Do you have a succulent garden or pot?  Any advice for me?

Farmers’ Markets

Fresh Herbs from farmers market | www.canolaeatwell.comIt’s one of my favorite things to do when I travel is to stop in at the farmers’ market.  The bounty of the markets always brings a smile to my face.

It’s a great way to experiment and try new vegetables and release my inner chef to create a unique dish with the fresh items that I buy at the market.

Do you tell your kids veggies are good for them? The research seems mixed on this one.  What do you do? Tell us below.

Registered Dietitians

Is there a registered dietitian in your future? Or do you know, consult, or have one as a friend?  So, what’s so special about RD’s?

Registered Dietitians use their knowledge and skills in food and nutrition to promote good health. They are health care professionals who have earned a Bachelor’s degree specializing in food and nutrition and have completed supervised practical training through a university program or an approved hospital or community setting.

Dietitians must be registered with Provincial Regulatory Bodies and are the only professionals who can use the titles “Registered Dietitian”, “Professional Dietitian” and “Dietitian”, which are protected by law. Look for the letters R.D., P.Dt. or D.Pt. after the name, indicating that the person is a registered member of the profession.

In most provinces there are not regulatory standards to protect the title “Nutritionist.” In provinces where “Nutritionist” is a protected title it usually is “Dietitian-Nutritionist” that is protected by law.

And they have a new Ap that you might want to download: eaTipsterThe eaTipster mobile app was created by Dietitians of Canada to make it a little easier for you to eat healthy.
