Rhubarb, of course!

It’s June and I just can’t get enough rhubarb. Did you know that rhubarb is technically a vegetable? Why yes, it’s a vegetable that we use as a fruit in our kitchens.

I love the first fresh picking in spring. It reminds me of new. New growth, new opportunities, new recipes to try, new experiences and another new season to enjoy with my family.

My top two recipes right now are these Rhubarb Tea Biscuits and this delicious Rhubarb BBQ Sauce. What is your favourite rhubarb recipe?

I love rhubarb so much that I even added a second variety to my garden. Watch out June 2017, the rhubarb is going to be epic!

It’s simply beautiful from now until October.  There is something about eating or entertaining outside with friends or family that allows the pace to automatically slow down. People linger, they relax, conversation increases and everyone enjoys themselves.

My 4 tips to make dining outside easy and stress free:

1) Invest in a plastic table cloth that you can have on your outdoor table & reuse all summer.

2) Find butcher paper (you can order on Amazon) and run it down the center of the table.  Use it as family style plates instead of serving platters.

3) Try banana leaves as plates or platters. Wipe first with a damp cloth to remove the white film, then drizzle and shine with a little canola oil and place your grilled meat, veggies and even dessert on the leaves.  You can find them in freezer section at large grocery stories or Asian markets.

4) Mason jars filled with flowers or greens from the garden as the centerpieces.

This summer, I want time to slow it down, moments to linger, be engaged and have elegant dining done easy!
