Pottery Mugs

I love hand-crafted coffee pottery mugs especially as presents. This holiday season consider buying one from your local favorite potter.  Need to find a favorite potter? Check local art studios and look for local pottery stores in a market near you.

Here are a few to get you started:

Mud and Stone

The best part about giving pottery – there is a always a unique piece to match the person on the receiving end of each each gift you give.

Destination Weddings

Last November, my daughter and her fiancé chose to get married in Mexico and it was not until our fourth day that I fully appreciated the value of seven days away for a wedding.

On this fourth day, most of the guests were hanging at the pool, sun worshipping and relaxation. My daughter, looked at her 85-year old grandpa and said, “I haven’t played crib with you yet. Let’s get to it.” With enthusiasm he secured the cards and the cribbage board.

I realized that destination weddings are more than getting away. They give you the opportunity to spend quality time with everyone who has chosen to be there with you. This was not about my daughter, but about people sharing time.

Expensive for the guests? Yes. But when I recall grandpa’s look of happiness? No. Worth the experience? You need to go once to understand it. See you in a couple of weeks when I return from my god daughter’s wedding in Los Cabos.

Local Handmade Clothes

emk clothing | www.canolaeatwell.comWhen the season changes I always have the urge to update and clean out my wardrobe. My fall update included a selection of items from local Winnipeg designer and entrepreneur emk clothing.

Erin’s line of comfy, casual and accessible pieces was the perfect formula for my home, work and travel needs. I needed the ability to dress up, dress down, travel, pack, wash and wear plus blend into my existing wardrobe.

Do you update your clothes with the season? I have a one item in, minimum of one item out rule when it comes to bringing clothes into my closet. How do you handle keeping only the best items that fit you and make you feel great?

There are so many fabulous Canadian designers and handmade clothing shops.  Do you have a favourite in your local market?
