Caring for our Crops

Just like us, plants have basic needs that must be met for them to survive. We feed the plants with nutrients like nitrate and phosphate fertilizers through the soil to help them grow strong and abundant. Fertilizers also replace nutrients in the soil that are essential for healthy crops, which allow us to grow more on less land.

Canola fields provide habitat to over 2,000 insects, like honeybees, so we use highly-targeted pesticides to protect our crops from things like weeds, crop-damaging insects and disease-causing fungi. Left unchecked, these pests can dramatically lower quality and yields. For consumers, lower production overall often means higher prices at the grocery store.

Did you Know?

Modern advancements have increased the effectiveness of pesticides, allowing us to reduce our overall use by 18%, despite increasing canola production by over 235%.

Naturally, farmers are highly experienced and only use pesticides that are registered as safe to use by the Government of Canada, and we ensure we limit the environmental impact and protect our health and the health of other farmers, workers and the communities we serve at all times.

Everything we do is also monitored by the Health Canada Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) to ensure we maintain these very high standards.

And, of course, we continue to evaluate and develop new learnings and practices to ensure we are always doing everything we can to continue to improve.

Because we’re always committed to growing the best for you.
