Make it Nut Free for School

We recently received the question “how can I make Jenn’s Chewy Granola Bars nut free?”

Here’s what I suggest:

Peanut Butter:

Can be replaced with Sunbutter (made from sunflower seeds) or Wow Butter (a soy based product).  Either of these options will work in the recipe or you can use a combination of the two to suit your needs.

 

 

Almonds:

Can be replaced by adding extra oats, chocolate chips, sunflower seeds, coconut or raisins that are already in the recipe.  Another option is to add chopped dried apricots (our family favourite), dried cranberries, dried cherries, golden raisins, dried mango, pumpkin seeds to list a few. Or go on a trip to your local bulk food store and pick our something new to you and give it a try.
