Thanksgiving Classics

Thanksgiving Day is approaching and turkey still is a traditional dinner choice.
The Manitoba Turkey Producers have some great tips on how to cook your turkey to perfection.
Manitoba Turkey Producers (MTP) represents 62 farm families in the province of Manitoba. Turkeys are raised year-round in Manitoba with an average farm producing 7,000 turkeys, three times a year. In total, turkey producers raise approximately 1.4 million turkeys annually. This represents approximately 11 million kilograms of fresh turkey available for consumer enjoyment.
If you want to try something quicker than roasting a turkey, why not try deep frying a turkey with canola oil.  Check out the link for the how to.  A deep fry turkey cooks in 30-40 minutes and is moist and so delicious.
Remember to follow safe cooking and frying guidelines.

If you have too many pumpkins and you are looking for a great way to insert that great flavour and nutrition into a baked item, why not try the Pumpkin Pie Scone.  These are wonderful for lunches and perfect for an afternoon snack.
Pumpkins are jammed packed with large amounts of antioxidants and beta-carotene. Antioxidants, as most of us know by know due to increased awareness of the importance of healthy living, help strengthen our immune system. Beta-carotene converts to Vitamin A and helps reduce the risk of cancer and other dangerous diseases.  Pumpkins by themselves are also very low in fat and calories, and high in potassium. They also possess a fair amount of Vitamin C and other nutrients, such as Niacin, Vitamin E, Calcium and Iron.
