What We’re Lovin’ for May

What We're Lovin' for May 2013 | www.blog.canolarecipes.caWhat Ellen’s Lovin’

All the entries and stories from My Be Well Story campaign.

Watch over the next few months for the follow up stories from some of the winners as well as the launch of the Next  My Be Well Story winners.  Everyone who entered has an inspirational story about making a difference and how they are trying to make our communities be a better place.  It left me with a good feeling and a smile on my face.  If you missed the videos of Getty, Doug and MJ, you can watch them here.

Be of Service

At a recent conference that I attended, I heard Jamie Clarke @JC_Climbs or www.jamieclarke.com and you can watch him on YouTube.com share his story, with all the failures and success along with the adventure of becoming a mountain climber.  He is a Canadian adventurer, author, film maker and an inspirational speaker. If you ever get the chance to hear him speak, go – you will be inspired.

I took away 5 key points from his presentation:

  1. Be of service
  2. Magic is in the team
  3. Look for Simple, Elegant Solutions
  4. Live Authentically
  5. Outside of fear is freedom

Celiac Awareness Month

Gluten Free Fudge Brownies | www.blog.canolarecipes.ca

May is Celiac Awareness Month and since canola oil is a gluten free friendly product we will be sharing recipes, tips and information to help us all understand what eating gluten free really means and how you really don’t have to give up anything – you only need to change your kitchen science experiments to include new flours and products.  Sound like fun to me.  Watch our blog all month long as we sharing and learn together with you.

Experimenting with baking recipes

When you start changing your baking recipes you truly are doing science in your kitchen.  In my opinion, in a good recipe, each and every ingredient is chosen with care for ultimate function, flavour and nutrition.  One of my idols in this area is Mairlyn Smith.  Her recipes never disappoint and after hearing her speak at the Food Bloggers of Canada Conference about recipe development I now know why.  It takes passion and dedication to get baking recipes right.  Do you like to experiment with recipes in your kitchen?

Fresh cinnamon buns on Sunday mornings

Cinnamon Buns | www.blog.canolarecipes.ca

I have a simple go-to recipe, but the Caramel Pecan Cinnamon Love Buns Ellen made on Great Tastes of Manitoba this season are my new favourite. They’re great for brunch or as a snack anytime, but I enjoy them best with a cup of coffee on Sunday mornings. Chef MJ made them in a live cooking demo at Ag Days in March where I sampled them, loved them and have been making them ever since. These buns have become popular in Selkirk too (watch for a blog post on the story later this month).

Intent.com

A website that allows you to share your intentions with others. Others in the community can like and comment on your intention to keep you motivated. The goal is to accomplish your intentions through community support, and to support others in their goals. You can reaffirm your intentions daily to stay on track and update them once completed. You can sync your account to Facebook and Twitter so you can share with everyone in your circle.

What are you lovin’ this month?
