Now we can eat

In some ways, Thanksgiving is not Thanksgiving if we don’t have turkey at our table.  Usually, my mom hosts Thanksgiving and for the last few years, I have taken over that responsibility.

In the beginning, I did the same meal that I grew up with, just how my mom did it.  But this year, I am going to make a few small changes. It’s nothing drastic, we are still having turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing.  I am just updating a few of the recipes, ok all of the recipes.

And since I am making changes to the meal, I might as well add one more twist to our gathering.  I will be asking my family and friends to share what they are ’giving thanks for’.   We will all start with same 4 words, “I am grateful for ..” fill in the blank.

This year, I am grateful for our farmers in Manitoba.  After spending a weekend with some of my farmer friends, it reconnected for me how it’s so important to listen to their stories, their passion and their challenges.  For me, it was a life-changing moment.

Now, we can eat.

On my table, my family will be enjoying:

Herb Roasted Turkey
Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Cold Brussels Sprouts Salad with Glazed Pecans

Happy Thanksgiving!
