Seasonal Squash

Fall is a wonderful time of the year to enjoy seasonal squash.  It is so versatile, and I love using squash in soup, pies, breads, sautéed, and even spiralized into ‘noodles’.  Varieties such as Cinderella, spaghetti, acorn, butternut, kabocha, sugar pumpkin and sweet dumpling are widely available, delicious and packed with nutrients.    Enjoy the fall harvest and eat more squash!

Here are a few of my favourite recipes:

Baked Spaghetti Squash Bolognese

Audio Books

I’m sure I’ve said this before and I’m reminding us all again, audio books are my favourite during the fall and winter months. I love to listen in the car while I drive my kids to activities, I listen while I wait for them at practices, on airplanes and sometimes while I’m in the kitchen either doing prep work or clean-up.

This month, I’m lovin: Kids These Days by Jody Carrington PHD. If you have children of any age in your life, you need to listen. This book is geared towards teachers and those in the educational system but the content is relevant to anyone who spends any amount of time with children, youth or adolescents.

This quote will welcome you to her site:

I believe in two things: First, I am a believer in the idea that you are exactly where you need to be. No matter how painful. No matter how wonderful. But wherever you are, you need to be there. You are there. It makes it easier sometimes to believe that. So—for some reason, you are here—and that’s very important to me. Second, I believe that everyone has a “story” and it is this story that guides your relationships. Understanding your own story can help you make sense of where you’ve come from and help in the writing of all future chapters that await. ~Jody Carrington PHD

Cookbooks

How many cookbooks do you own?  I love cookbooks, some might say (ok my family) that I have too many cookbooks but how can that be possible 😊 Cookbooks inspire me to try new dishes and learn about new cuisines and are just fun to flip through and read.

Taste Canada just celebrated all the amazing Canadian cookbook award winners, I can’t wait to add to my collection.
